What's on at Morden Tower
NALLE: Saturday 17 July
Nalle is the trio of Hanna Tuulikki, Aby Vulliamy and Chris Hladowski. Performing since 2004, the group have toured extensively in Europe and the United States, drawing audiences into their intimate sound world. Spearheaded by Tuulikki’s expressive vocals and straight-from-the-heart song craft, the music is underpinned by intuitive group interplay on an array of instruments from the four corners of the globe, from bouzouki and viola to Finnish kantele and mouth harps
THE HORSE LOOM...performs as if he has managed to plug himself directly in to some mysterious ancient druid layline, and transforms that in to heart-warming folk music. He switches between instrumentals that sound as if they have been shaped by the elements, and more ‘straightforward’ songs, that are in the lineage of classic modern folk artists such as Bert Jansch and David Graham."
RICHARD DAWSON "sings songs and plays guitar" - in his own inimitable way.

ALASDAIR ROBERTS + support: Monday 9 August
Alasdair Roberts is a Scottish singer, guitarist, interpreter of traditional songs and writer of new songs based in Glasgow, Scotland. Since 1996 he has worked with Drag City Records (Smog, Broadcast, Bert Jansch), releasing three albums of original material under the name Appendix Out as well as five albums under his own name, featuring both original and traditional material. In that time, he has worked with a wide variety of collaborators from many different musical and artistic backgrounds, including Will Oldham (aka Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy), Jason Molina (aka Songs : Ohia) and many, many more.
In terms of traditional material, Roberts has a predilection for song and, in particular, narrative ballads. His own song material draws on traditional material in various melodic and lyrical ways. With a background in English and Scottish literature, he has a recurrent interest in themes mythopoeic, metaphysical, naturalistic, historical and folkloric.
